WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said that the United States stands with Greece as it recovers from its economic crisis. He speaks with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the White House in a joint press conference.
The US President says that the two leaders discussed defense, energy and trade issues.
Trump praises Greece for its defense spending under NATO and points to a potential sale to Greece to upgrade its F-16 aircraft, which he says would be worth $2.4 billion and generate thousands of American jobs.
Tsipras says that his country has taken economic steps and is “leaving behind the economic model that led to the crisis.” He says Greece’s relationship with the United States is “more important than ever.”
