After a flurry of hirings and acquisitions, another building block has been put in place for Utopia Music’s ambitious plans. The company has signed a deal with B2B firm 7digital to use its database of metadata and recordings.
Use it why though? “A voice recognition system will track where and when music is used and who should pay for it,” the ad reads.
It’s all part of a broader push to use music ID systems – originally popularized with consumer apps like Shazam – in a business context to track plays and link them to payment owed to rights holders.
Another example was launched last week in the UK called “Music Recognition”, with support from several industry bodies and startup Audoo.
