Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin agreed to start peace talks to end the war in Ukraine.
In a dramatic development after nearly three years of war, the US President said that negotiations to end the conflict will begin “immediately” after a 90 -minute phone call to his Russian counterpart.
But the penetration came without the involvement of Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski, which led to fears that he would be forced to make great concessions in order to put the war.
“We talked about the strengths of our nations, and the great benefit that we will one day do at work together,” Trump said.
“But first, as we agreed, we want to stop millions of deaths in the war with Russia/Ukraine. Even President Putin used the slogan of my very strong campaign,” the healthy sense. “We both believe very strongly.
“We have agreed to work together, closely, including visiting each other. We also agreed to start our teams from negotiations immediately, and we will start contacting President Zelinsky, from Ukraine, by informing him of the conversation, which I will do now.”
He added: “Millions of people died in a war that had not happened if you were president, but that happened, so it should end. More lives should not be lost.”
This clear penetration, hours after Higseth’s house, the new defense minister in America, said that the Ukrainian membership in NATO was outside the table at any settlement of peace.
In a dramatic break with the previous American policy on the war, he also said that it was “unrealistic” that Ukraine would expect to return to the borders it was belonging to before 2014, when Russia invaded and annexed Crimea.
Hegseth also insisted that American forces would not be sent to Ukraine to any peace deal, which he said should be the responsibility of European countries.
He spoke at the NATO summit in Brussels, he said: “We want, like you, Ukraine with sovereign and prosperous.
“But we must start by realizing that returning to the borders of Ukraine before 2014 is an unrealistic goal.
“The pursuit of this imaginary goal will only lead to the prolongation of the war and cause more suffering.”
He added: “The United States does not believe that NATO membership in Ukraine is a realistic result to settle negotiations.”
However, UK Defense Minister John Healy insisted that Ukraine should be allowed to eventually join NATO.
He said: “We have always been clear that Ukraine’s right place in NATO.”
