WASHINGTON – On Friday, National Nuclear Security Administration officials tried to notify some of the employees who were left the day before they are now returning – but they fought to find them because they had no new contact information.
In an email sent to NNSA employees and obtained by NBC News, officials wrote, “The termination messages of some NNSA test staff are canceled, but we have no good way to communicate with these employees.”
Individuals who refer to the letter were separated on Thursday and lost access to the federal government’s e -mail accounts. NNSA, which falls within the Ministry of Energy and supervises the nuclear stock in the country, cannot access these employees direct .
The Ministry of Energy did not immediately respond to the NBC news request for comment.
The administration of President Donald Trump has acted at an unprecedented speed – and in some cases, the questionable legitimacy – in seeking to cut large parts of the federal government, lay off the employees and end contracts. But this speed resulted in complications, including launching the agencies of the people you really want to keep.
Email messages come after many employees – all civil service employees – in NNSA receiving the termination notifications late Thursday, according to a source with direct knowledge of the notifications. NBC News reviewed the termination notification, which included the topic line: “Notifying the termination during the test/experiment.”
NNSA was assigned to design, build and supervise the stock of American nuclear weapons.
The termination notifications, which were “effective today”, came within hours of a Russian drone hitting the power plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine. NNSA tracks nuclear risks in Ukraine, including through sensor systems.
The NNSA epic comes at a time when the Trump administration has carried out collective launchs throughout the federal government this week, which primarily reduced the employees’ jobs classified as a “test”.
Some departments have witnessed huge numbers of demobilization operations, such as the Ministry of Internal Security, where more than 400 people were informed that their jobs were cut.
NNSA’s nuclear safety specialist told her two -year monitoring employee NBC News that she was still closed from her e -mail, but her manager had contacted her that she was “termination” and informed him of the work on Tuesday.
“I will be honest, I intend to continue to search for work,” the employee said. “I will return, but as soon as I find another role, I will leave.”
