Thousands of people in cities throughout the United States protested the Trump administration’s discounts on scientific financing on March 7.
In New York City, more than a thousand people gathered in Washington, Square Park, chanting, “Science Boxes, not War!” People carried banners to support science and extract discounts, including a sign: “Science makes America great.”
The protest was one of the 30 “standing for science” gatherings in cities all over the United States, with more than 150 events all over the world expected. The researchers also came out of the laboratories as part of the protest.
Since the opening of President Donald Trump on January 20, the administration has canceled or freezing billions of dollars from federal funding for scientific and medical research. Several discounts focused on research related to diversity, fairness and integration (Dei), as well as research on climate change and sex. The administration also launched thousands of federal employees in American scientific agencies, including in the National Oceanic and Air Force Administration, National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“The science is being attacked and funding is reduced in a way that affects the well -being of our nation now and for many decades,” said Maya, a post -PhD researcher at the University of Colombia University in New York. She says she and her colleagues have lost funding for their research.
