Smartphones, laptops and other products exempt from the Trump tariff will be assembled on April 9 with duties on semiconductors in “month or two”, Trade Minister Howard Lootnick He said ABC News Jonathan Carl anchor this week.
Yesterday, the Trump administration issued updated guidelines that excluded smartphones, laptops and more new customs tariffs of Trump, including an additional 125 percent tax on the goods produced by Chinese last week.
“This is not a permanent type of exemption,” Lottenic told “Karl”, saying that they will subsequently undergo a “special concentration type of customs tariff” applied to the semiconductor industry, similar to the tariff of Trump already released.
When asked if the new definitions would include products such as iPhone devices, many of which were built in China, Lutnick said this is “true” and that the goal is to “encourage them to rebuild and build in America.”
“It is not as if you can open a factory tomorrow to build iPhone devices,” said Karl.
I don’t necessarily think. I think the idea is that we can manufacture here in America. As I said, there – I saw Panasonic, the battery company. right? Japanese company. They built an amazing factory in Kansas, which they are now opening. They were putting it on the ground when Donald Trump was president, as he finished now.
