Ruben Amorim says Manchester United wonderkid Toby Collier is training well ahead of Thursday’s match against Southampton.

Collier made a rare appearance in United’s FA Cup win over Arsenal on Sunday, playing for 39 minutes in the Red Devils’ penalty shootout win.

The 21-year-old, who joined United’s academy from Brighton in 2022, has made just four first-team appearances for the club so far – only one of which came in the Premier League – against Liverpool in September.

But he now looks set to get more game time in the Premier League, with Amorim hinting that Collier will be deployed against the Saints at Old Trafford.

“Toby is training really well,” Amorim said in the pre-match press conference. “He has great speed and loves to learn, so he is another option for tomorrow.”

Amorim feels he will learn more about his United side from their clash with Southampton than he did from recent trips to Liverpool and Arsenal.

“This next match will teach me more from my players than the last two matches,” Amorim added before the match against the bottom team.

“Because there are no expectations on us in the last two games. No one thinks we can win. Now they expect us to win and play well.

United have already lost three times at Old Trafford under Amorim, to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

“I’m always worried because, during these matches, we haven’t had consistency in performance and results, so I’m always worried,” Amorim said.

“It’s my job to be concerned but we have to face Southampton in the same way we faced Liverpool and Arsenal, so that’s the goal.”

Nothing more and nothing less facing this game but understanding that they are different games. People expect us to win.

When you have pressure to win, that’s the pressure we want. Sometimes it’s hard.

“Against Arsenal and Liverpool, no one expected us to beat those two teams but now it is different. We have to be ready for this pressure. We need this pressure as a team and we need to face the game in the right way.
