The brother of a man stabbed to death by his son, who has mental illness, said that health services and the failure of the police in his family.
Brenton Marriott died in the hospital after Rudi Marriott stabbed him on Kleoister Street, Nottingham, on August 5, 2022.
Rudi, who was suffering from schizophrenia, was crazy The hospital order was sentenced Last April, after he was convicted of unintentionally killing on the basis of decreasing responsibility, but Delphine Marriott said the family tried to get help before the attack.
With the last announcement of A general investigation led by the judge in the Nuttingham attacks – What happened after less than a year – Delphine said he wanted to make sure that no one else passes the same shock.
“The character has changed”
In his first full interview since Brenton’s death, Delphin said that Rudi had a very close relationship with his father, who worked on the Red Cross, after he took care of his mother and was part of the family.
“Rudi was part of a loving family, and he was a wonderful person,” he said.
“Even when my mother lost her legs using, Rudi was there to help us and support us.”
He said that the mental health of Rudi worsened after he was severely injured in the head in an attack on the street about 10 years ago, which led to weeks in the hospital.
“He was hit badly, and he had a dog on him, and at that stage Rudi’s character changed,” he said.
“He could not speak or work at all [in hospital]But as soon as he started talking a little, he was complaining [about] His head, saying that his head did not feel right.
“Then he was complaining that he was hearing voices in his head.”

Delvin claimed that the Rudi report on hearing voices “was not taken seriously” when he was in the hospital, with his condition still difficult after he returned home.
“It was definitely worsening, more than mood, and very stimulating,” he said.
“Sometimes he does not want to speak, [and] Just show signs that things were not right with him.
“We only worked on him to try to get calm – we tried to help him.”
Brenton and his brother gathered on a tour to try to support Rudi, who also approached mental health services to try to obtain support.
“he [Rudi] He sat in the hospital waiting for his vision – 13 hours one time, five hours the next day – he was trying to get help through the system. “
“He knew that there was something wrong, but again nothing came from him.
“He did not get any help, and he had never been hospitalized, and we just continued to try to help him.”

After a period of best health when he lived with his partner at the time, Rudi’s condition deteriorated again in 2018, when he began to say he had a chip in his head and stabbed the walls at home.
Delvin said the family was in contact with the Nutinghamsheire police because of their concerns, including after an accident in 2019 when the officers came alongside the mental health nurse, he decided that Rudi did not need to divide it.
“I thought at that stage that something will be done,” he said.
“They were explained to them about his circumstances, and how he did not control his ideas, which is very illusion, and we believed that this would be fine, but they believed that Rudi was neither harm to himself nor the harm of the audience.”
Delphine said that the response from the authorities left the family “is completely isolated” and with “no place to go” while installing their concerns.
Rudi’s mental health problems continued, and in August 2022 his father stabbed 75 times.
“It was possible that this was what was attacked – Rudi did not know what he was doing,” Delvin said.
“It was just an illusion, because he believed that everything was going on in his head. Regardless of what I told him about reality, he had no effect.
“By this stage, the services used to say,” Well, he is exaggerated, he needed to come to himself. ” [but] At this stage, it is too late, they missed the opportunity. “
“It is difficult to understand”
Delvin said he was still feeling the pain of losing his brother, who said he was “more or less super hero” of the way Rudi took care of.
Despite the pain, he says he forgives his nephew for the “devastating” attack, and he was to see him in the hospital.
“It is just a tragic, terrible and terrifying event,” he said. “I love my nephew, but he took my brother’s life.
“I forgot it, but it is a disturbance of the most difficult emotions.”
Delvin also referred to Nutingham attacksWhere Valdo Kalokan – who is also suffering from schizophrenia with greatness – killed three people, and said that they may “did not happen” if the authorities listened to his family.
“My heart sank when I heard about the attacks of Nutingham, because I just thought,” here we go again. “
“they [Rudi and Calocane] Both of them had mental health conditions, and they were not considered seriously as it could have been. “

Local killing began with Brenton’s death on January 9, 2023, and will cover contact with Rudi and a family from August 2019 until death.

Devin hopes that this will lead to the necessary changes to stop similar incidents that occur again.
“We do not want Brent’s death to be in vain,” he said. “This is something that can happen to any family.
“Even since this attack, a few people came to see me and talked about their own circumstances, which are very similar to.
“This is not for one time, and this is something that can happen with anyone, and it is something that still happens.”
Nutinghamsheire police said they would not be suspended during the murder, still happening.
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which was severely criticized After a major review In the care she gave Valdo Calukan, he said, “Any loss in these circumstances is an absolute tragedy.”
