Last month, Microsoft announced that it would increase the prices of Microsoft 365 consumer for the first time since it was presented as Office 365 plans more than a decade. Microsoft uses new features of COPILOT brands to justify price increases, which reach an additional $ 3 per month or $ 30 annually for both individual and family plans.
But Microsoft Giveth (Chargeth More) and Microsoft Taketh far; according to Support pageThe company also removes the VPN feature “Privacy Protection” from Microsoft 365’s Microsoft Defender Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android OS app. Other guns, including the protection of identity theft and the protection of harmful programs, will remain available. Privacy protection will stop working on February 28.
Microsoft did not say exactly the reason for removing the feature, but the company guaranteed that there are not enough people who were using the service.
“We routinely evaluate the use and effectiveness of our features. As such, we remove the privacy protection feature and we will invest in new areas that will be better in line with customer needs,” says the support note.
Cutting the features at the same time that prices raise the first time not, as they say, a great look. But the Defender VPN feature was a little limited compared to other custom VPN services. It has come with 50 GB per user, data cover per month, and automatically excluded “heavy content traffic from good reputable sites” such as YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
