“Six of the remaining top 20 free agents are starting pitchers. One of them pitched 170 innings last year, Jose Quintana,” Finkelstein wrote. “There were times last year when the 35-year-old looked like Father Time was catching up with him, as he posted a 7.20 ERA in five starts in May, and a 5.63 ERA in six starts in August.
“However, every time Quintana had a tough stretch, he bounced back with a great hit. Quintana’s final outing was his most impressive, as he pitched to an MLB-best 0.74 ERA over his final six starts from August 25 through August. End of Season “
The Blue Jays need to add talent any way they can. They recognized a lot of notable names in free agency this winter including Juan Soto and Corbin Burns.
The starting rotation isn’t the first place the Blue Jays need to add, but they can certainly add a reliable veteran to anchor the rotation. Quintana wouldn’t be the biggest upgrade, but he could certainly provide stability.
