Glynis Jones, famous for her role as Mrs. Banks in the 1964 Disney classic Mary Poppins, had a colorful love life, marrying several times and outliving all of her husbands. The famous actress died last January at the age of 100.
Over the course of her eight-decade film career, she made notable performances in Hostile Hostages, Miranda, and The Court Jester, and won a Tony Award for her work in theater.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jones had a colorful personal life, marked by numerous love accusations and a failed marriage. She tied the knot four times, and outlived each of her husbands.
Her first marriage was to Anthony Forwood in 1942, whom she met while rehearsing for Quiet Wedding. The couple welcomed their son, Gareth Forwood, born on October 14, 1945, in Marylebone, London. However, the marriage ended in divorce three years after the birth of their son, with adultery cited as the reason for the breakup.
Jones’ search for love did not end with her first marriage. She became engaged to her Encore co-star Anthony Darnborough in 1951, and he proposed at Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire.
Although they were engaged, the relationship eventually fell apart. Jones then married David Foster, a Royal Navy officer, in Manhattan, New York, in 1952. This marriage also ended in divorce in 1956. Her third husband was businessman Cecil Henderson, who claimed that their marriage ended because of the star’s infidelity.
Her last marriage was to USAF captain and writer Elliot Arnold in 1964 in Los Angeles. The couple divorced in 1973.
Reflecting on the possibility of marrying again, she once told The Sun: “I’ve been very calm about it. Very calm. I’m certainly not going to rush into anything again, and I must have a lot in common.” “Who would I consider marrying next?”
