More than 170,000 bottles of apple juice voluntarily are called by S. Martinelli & Company in 28 states for potential pollution with toxic substances, according to American Food and Drug Administration.
The company, based in WhatsApp, California, issued a summons on March 18 to more than 7,200 cases of product, each containing 24 bottles for each case.
“In 2024, the routine test of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicated that one of the apple juice bottles in Martinelli 10 ounces (in 4 packages only) may contain high levels of Patolin, a naturally caused substance produced by molds that can grow in apples.”
Patulin is usually seen in Apple products as a measure of apple quality used, according to National Library of Medicine.
The company said: “In S. Martinelli & Company, we adhere to ourselves with the highest standards of excellence, and the health and safety of our customers is still our greatest priority.”
No health problems related to the summons have been reported so far, as the company said in a press release.
The products affected throughout the United States were distributed in the following 28 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delore, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Habchi, Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Virginia Wisconsin.
Martinelli stated that the company worked with retailers who received the product that was called, and any elements affected in the stock were removed.
The product called “Best by” on December 5, 2026, and is determined by UPC 0 41244 04102 2, located below the barcode of the product.
