Jack Draper has spoken openly about being considered a sex symbol by grandmothers.
The 23-year-old champion tennis player is one of the UK’s most exciting athletes and is currently ranked 15th in the world.
But he claims he is largely ignored when he is out and about – until older women approach him.
Speaking to The Sunday Times’s Style magazine, the sports star said: “In the UK, the people who know me, the older women who play club tennis… well, they’re not even the mothers. They’re more like the grandmothers!”
In the wide-ranging interview, he made clear that he does not feel like he is living in the shadow of the famous British player Andy Murray, who became world number one in 2016 and won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016.
“The strange thing is I don’t think about it much because it’s out of my control,” Draper told the glossy Weekend magazine.
“I’m not trying to be the next Andy Murray… He’s one of the greatest players of all time, and to put that level of pressure on myself, I’m not doing that. I’m focused on fulfilling my own potential, whatever that looks like.”
He added: “The main thing is to focus on your own path, your own journey. Fuck what everyone else says, except the people close to you, and just get going.”
