Having watched Mark Zuckerberg roll out for a week the new MAGAfied Facebook/Meta, let me put my points on the lack of any of this aging well for his company. It is simply clumsy and over-the-top, and places too many stakes on a lame-duck president who will govern a country that remains sharply divided. As much as anything else, these moves highlight Meta’s global technical and regulatory vulnerabilities, not so much toward the U.S. government or even the European Union as toward other tech giants. These things take a long time to play with. The US government and the executive branch that Trump will soon control can do Zuckerberg and Meta a lot of favors. Zuckerberg has been very transparent about what he hopes these services will be. But overall, it tells the story of a very weak and defensive brand as you see this playing out over the coming years.
