Exploring the world of ballroom – a genre and form of dance that originated in Jamaica – BengoliaShelly billy inna real lifeIt gives an intimate view of the communities and individuals that keep the scene going. Accompanied by dance icon Shelley Bailey, Bengolia explores the choreography and social context of dance participants and the wider culture around them.

In this interview, Bengolia discusses her relationship with dancehall, the relationship between Jamaican police, dance and the wider world of street dance.

Shelly billy inna real lifeIt’s not Bengolea’s first brush with Shelly Belly or The Vinyl Factory. In 2016, Bengolia and collaborative partner Jeremy Diller teamed up with The Vinyl Factory to createDream of a pom pomto Infinite combination exhibition.

The film revolves around the adventures of a Japanese dancer known as Pom Pom.Dream of a pom pomLikewise, she participated in ballroom dancing and featured Shelley Bailey in the title role.
