Iga Swiatek has unveiled the player who made her rediscover her love for ATP after Rafael NadalRetirement. World 2 recognized that she had a large extent to see men’s tennis after the main winner ended 22 times his career last November. But one rising star filled this void now.
The Polish star faced a “problem” in finding ATP players, which she could invest as soon as Nadal moved away. But Swiaatek has since been found on a new face to follow up at Joao FONSECA, the Brazilian teenager who had a penetration season.
Fonseca has always tended to be great things in tennis, and only 18 years old, he has already delivered it. In 2024, the Brazilian finished winning the following Gen ATP finals, a championship that was previously won by the such as Carlos Alcaraz and Janek Sinner.
The 18 -year -old won the Canberra Challenger title in January and followed by qualifying for the first Grand Slame draw for the Australian Open, where Andre Roblef, ranked ninth in the first round.
Last month, he won the first ATP title in Buenos Aires and reached the highest rank 68. His ascension raised the tennis world on a notice – so far Swiatek from fans.
“I think he’s amazing,” said Grand Slam five times to ESPN.
“When Rafa retired, I wasn’t watching a lot of ATP. I always followed the Carlos Carle.
“I faced a problem to find other players who really shocked me and loved their game. Then I saw Joao, and I really enjoyed how he played and moved. The decisions he made in court.”
It is clear that FONSECA left the impression of the previous world number 1. Swiatek now says she will see more men’s tennis thanks to the Brazilian teenager.
“I think it will definitely be a player I will follow. Because of him, I will see more ATP and enjoy it. He was amazing. He works wonderfully.
“There is a lot of pressure on it, so I hope the Brazilian fans will take it easily because it is still small and there is time to develop. With peace of mind, step by step, he will become a great player.”
Swiaatek and FONSECA also have a connection – sponsored by both from the Swiss SPOSWSWEAR brand. This means that wta no. 2 FONSECA height followed for a longer period than most.
Both players work at the ATP and WTA 1000 joint event in Indian Wales this week. Swiaatek will tend to defend the title while FONSECA will make his first appearance as a wild card.
