Hollywood lost one of its greatest icons, as Jin Hakman and his wife, Pitts Arakawa, died within a week of each other at their home in Santa in, New Mexico. The New Mexico Medical Office confirmed that Arakawa, 65, died on February 11, and Hakman, 95, died on February 18.
Dr. Heather Jarrel, the government medical examiner, told reporters that the monitoring and forensic analysis footage indicates that Arakawa contracted HPS from rodent exposure. While this disease is rare, it contains a 42 % death rate in New Mexico, where only 136 cases were reported in 50 years. Hackman tested negatively to the Hantaf virus, indicating that he did not hold the disease from his wife.
