Charli XCX called on brands to help bushfire victims (Image: @charli_xcx/instagram)

Charli XCX has made a plea for brands to help victims of the Los Angeles wildfires by donating clothing.

The fires, which burned from January 7 to 10, have destroyed an estimated 10,000 buildings including affluent suburbs, churches, Hollywood film sets and a school whose alumni include William and Forest Whitaker.

The number of confirmed deaths has risen to 16 people at the time of writing this report.

Officials previously said 11 people had died, but they expected the number to rise as cadaver dogs searched devastated areas that were previously unsearchable.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office provided the new figure yesterday evening, saying five of the deaths were due to the Palisades Fire, and 11 were the result of the Eaton Fire.

More people are still missing, and authorities have set up a center where people can report their loved ones for updates.

“As someone in the public eye, I am often sent clothes and other items from brands who want to gift me something,” she wrote.

“This is so sweet and sweet but I want to encourage brands to give it to people who really need it. If any brands are reading this, please donate to those who were tragically affected by the horrific Los Angeles fires.”

Many celebrities have been spotted helping with the relief effort, including Jennifer Garner, who recently held back tears when she emotionally revealed to MSNBC that her friend “didn’t get out in time” during the fires.

The Daredevil actress, 52, was providing support for World Central Kitchen (WCK), a non-profit organization that provides food relief, when MSNBC caught her for a quick interview with Katie Tur.
