“When the Earth comes between the sun and the moon, the only sunlight must pass that can reach the moon first through the Earth’s atmosphere.

“With the sunlight entering the air, the different wavelengths (and thus colors) will spread from light and wear them in different quantities. Blue light is a lot, which is why our sky is blue.

“The red light is often not affected by the atmosphere gases, so it travels throughout the way through them and leave the other side where it can shine on the moon, making it look red.”
