Djokovic vents at Murray!

But Basavareddy saves the break point and Djokovic gives Murray the first taste of his own medicine, shrugging and shouting at his box. Andy should know better than anyone: it is always the coach’s fault.

Costeen Hatzi cheers on her boyfriend Nick Kyrgios

Costeen Hatzi was starred at a Bondi Sands event earlier today at Melbourne Park, but right now she’s trying to spur her partner, Nick Kyrgios on.

Things aren’t looking so good for the Aussie right now on the court, with kyrgios going a set down in the first and looks like he’ll lose the second now too, with Fearnley breaking him to go 5-3 up.

Hatzi is a Sydney-based blogger and has her own business Casa Amor Interiors.

She was also seen earlier on Monday supporting her boyfriend as he practised ahead of today’s match.

Fearnley admitted

In the run-up to this match, Fearnley, 23, admitted his excitement at facing Nick Kyrgios on home soil.

The Scot added that he had a bit of anxiety about facing the great disruptor, but he is showing none of that on the court tonight.

He has a 4-1 lead over Kyrgios after winning the first set.

Basavareddy, 19, is outclassing Djokovic

That is an extraordinary first set of Grand Slam tennis from 19-year-old world No 107 Nishesh Basavareddy.

His maturity and shot selection was so impressive – reminiscent in some ways, actually, of a young Andy Murray.

Kokkinakis through to the second round

After a gruelling four hour match, Thanassi Kokkinakis has walked away with a 3-1 victory, 3-6 6-3 6-3 7-6 (7-5), against Roman Safiullin.

It was a monumental tug of war between the pair with the Aussie star rallying to claim the final three sets.

Here’s what it meant to the Aussie…

Djokovic is looking flat as he LOSES the first set!

Basavareddy is playing superbly and will serve for the first set at 5-4. Djokovic is looking rather flat. Dare I say it, he might need his coach to give him some energy out there…

Fearnley takes the first set!

Tough blow for Kyrgios, he fought well there but he seemed to lose his edge in that tiebreak 7-3.

Fearnley, meanwhile, has hugely impressed so far. He’s come out to attack the home favourite with the partisan crowd inside the John Cain Arena cheering Kyrgios at every opportunity they can get.

Tiebreak over at the John Cain Arena

These two have been inseparable so far with Kyrgios having saved two break points so far in the first set.

We’re into a tiebreak now and Fearnley has taken a big advantage going 5-1 up here.

Kyrgios doesn’t look too amused, speaking across the court to the coaches in his corner. I can’t quite hear what he’s saying but he didn’t seem too happy.

Djokovic is looking frustrated on the court…

It’s not going so well right now for the 10-time Australian Open winner.

Basavareddy breaks Djokovic!

Basavareddy has got the first break against Djokovic! What a moment for the 19-year-old who is ranked No 107 on the ATP Tour.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion just hasn’t got out of the starting blocks as yet, with his American opponent taking the advantage at 4-3.

Murray staying quiet on Rod Laver

We have not heard a peep from Murray so far. The Scot is sitting back in his chair as stoic as his former mentor Ivan Lendl.

Djokovic’s opponent Nishesh Basavareddy is playing some lovely stuff though in holding his first two service games.

If he can push Djokovic deep in this set then the statuesque Murray might awaken.

Kyrgios saves two breaks!

Smart work from the Australian. With the pair now tied at 3-3, with Fearnley taking a 40-30 lead on Kyrgios’ serve, the Aussie showed his composure to save two break points, clipping a stunning drop shot over the net.

Prior to that Kyrgios, tennis’ great entertainer, produced a stunning tweener!

Five-set thriller alert!

Jack Draper and Mariano Navone have gone to the fifth set!

But the tide is now swinging in the Brit’s favour after nearly four hours on the court.

Draper has broken his opponent for the second time in the set and has just held serve to go 5-1 up!

Look who’s in Novak’s corner!

Kyrgios has gone 2-1 up with Fearnley serving to the home favourite now, it looks as though he’s about to go level at 2-2, going 40-love up.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic and Nishesh Basavareddy are level at one game apiece on Rod Laver Arena.

Djokovic has been seen heading over to his corner to speak with Andy Murray who is sat in the Serbian’s coaching pod at the side of the court.

But the coaching pods, which are a new fixture for this year’s Australian Open, have left some fans divided.

Kyrgios takes the first game, but Fearnley hits back

His serve is looking really good here, with the Aussie star bombing three Aces past Fearnley in the opening game.

Fearnley has pulled a game back, though, fending off the Australian’s advances on his own serve.

Earlier this week, Kyrgios said tennis has been ‘mundane’ without him, with the Aussie star claiming he was back to rescue tennis from ‘boring stars’.

He’s certainly an entertainer but do you agree the sport has been mundane during his two-year absence?

It’s Kyrgios to serve first…

And he double faults! But by the barest of margins.

It doesn’t matter though, as he bombs a huge ace down the middle to make it 15-15.

He’s looking a little more confident after that first mistake bombing yet another ace down the court to go 15-30 up.

Why did Jacob Fearnley delete his social media?

Fearnley is making his debut at the Australian Open this year having made his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon last year.

The 23-year-old Brit broke the ATP top 100 for the first time in September 2024 but ahead of today’s match revealed why he deleted his account ahead of his clash with Kyrgios.

Kyrgios gets a HUGE roar!

The John Cain Arena has just erupted for the returning local hero – and he looks pumped!

The atmosphere inside the arena is absolutely electric right now!

How much does it cost for a beer at the Australian Open?

The players are about five minutes away here and the John Cain Arena is filling out nicely.

The Rod Laver Arena is also jam-packed with fans ready for Djokovic’s match against Nishesh Basavareddy.

It’s been a brilliant atmosphere around Melbourne Park today, with many sampling some of the excellent food and drink stands around the tennis precinct.

But how much does food and drink cost at the Australian Open?

Prices at the Australian Open have stayed largely the same as last year’s tournament, with a pint of Peroni costing $13.50 (£6.75).

A glass of wine will also set you back $13.95 (£6.97) while a plate of fries will set you back around $13.50 too.

Meanwhile, if you’re thinking of picking up some merch in the shop, this year’s must-have item is the Australian Open oven mitt, priced at $30 (£15).

Marcus Stoinis leaves Novak Djokovic gobsmacked

It seems Novak Djokovic has been getting around a fair bit this week with the 24-time Grand Slam champion spotted enjoying a surfing trip to the beach with his family.

But on Sunday night he headed down to the Marvel Stadium to watch the the Stars take on the Renegades in the Big Bash League.

The Melbourne derby produced fireworks, with Djokovic being left gobsmacked after Marcus Stoinis was caught out after slogging a huge ball up into the air.

The bromance is real!

The bromance is real between Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic.

The pair dazzled two weeks ago at the Pat Rafter Arena as they partnered up for doubles.

While the pair have butted heads in the past but it appears their friendship is stronger than ever.

Earlier this week, Djokovic made a rather sensational claim that he had been poisoned when he came to the Australian Open back in 2022.

Kyrgios was meanwhile pressed on his comments, taking the side of his doubles partner and unloading on Australia.

‘No, I haven’t spoken to him on it, I didn’t know that,’ the 29-year-old said when asked about Djokovic’s controversial comments.

‘We treated him like s*** that’s for sure,’ he said referring to Australia.

‘We shouldn’t have done that.’

Kokkinakis goes 2-1 up!

Thanasi Kokkinakis has taken the lead against Roman Safiullin at the Kia Arena, in what’s been a gruelling two-and-a-half hour match already.

The Aussie star has come back from going a set down against his 27-year-old opponent but has battled hard, using his power and precision to force Safiullin to make a string of unforced errors.

But Aussie fans feared the worst for their local hero earlier in the match after he called for a medical time-out, having looked uneasy on the court.

It looks as though it’s not bothering him as much right now but a concern for the Aussie star.

T-Minus 30 minutes until Kyrgios takes court

We’ve just taken our seats here at The John Cain Arena and plenty of fans are starting to make their way into the stadium.

The roof is off and the grounds staff are currently drying off the court!

Nick Kyrgios and Jacob Fearnley are set to get underway in about 30 minutes, with Novak Djokovic and Nishesh Basavareddy set to go head-to-head at the Rod Laver Arena at the same time.

Another scheduling conundrum…

We were speaking yesterday with fans about the opening day having a slightly underwhelming schedule of matches. Though Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverev, Matt has a very interesting point about today’s schedule.

I’ve just ran from the media centre to The John Cain arena and Melbourne Park is absolutely jam packed!

Fans hit out at major Australian Open change

Some fans have been left divided over a new feature at this summer’s Australian Open.

Players are now allowed to have their coaches courtside during matches, with tournament boss Craig Tiley excited about the new innovation.

Last night, Alexander Zverev was seen in deep discussion with his team during his match against Lucas Pouille.

But some have branded the move as ‘awful’ and ‘just not tennis’.

Let me know in the comments what you think of the new changes.

Sabalenka back on court today after dancing on Rod Laver

In case you missed it Aryna Sabalenka danced for fans at the Rod Laver Arena last night after she claimed a first round victory against Sloane Stephens.

She was back on court hitting some huge bombs in practice in front of a huge crowd of fans. But in a classy gesture, Sabalenka stayed behind late on Court 16 and signed a ton of autographs for fans.

The partnership we’ve all been waiting to see!

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have been hard at work in training this week and an interesting backstage moment was caught on camera earlier today ahead of the Serbian’s first-round clash against Nishesh Basavareddy.

Interestingly, there is a big chance Murray will be sat in one of the new pods next to the court on Rod Laver this evening in what will be a surprise new role for the three-time slam winner.

But not all players have taken kindly to the new coaching pods situated on the main courts around Melbourne Park.

What have we just witnessed!

Frances Tiafoe claimed victory against Arthur Rinderknech earlier today but the French star showcased his skills to pull off an incredible round-the-post winner to beat the US star after Tiafoe’s underarm serve!

A bizarre moment at the Margaret Court has just unfolded

Aussie star Jordan Thompson has just knocked a plate out of a wall at the Margaret Court Arena with a ripping serve towards his opponent Dominik Koepfer.

The Aussie wound up a massive strike straight down the middle of the court.

It would have almost certainly been an Ace if his ball hadn’t just gone long, with his German opponent standing wide next to the tramlines.

But such was the power of his serve, the 30-year-old Aussie’s strike took a pane out of the back wall!

The pane fell to the ground, with the chair umpire calling for a second serve before the wall was repaired.

Thompson would go on to secure his passage to the second round, beating his opponent 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 4-6 6-3.

Fans have been waiting nearly five hours to see Kyrgios

Some fans have been stood out all morning in the hot Melbourne sun in hopes of snagging a ticket to watch Kyrgios make his Australian Open return.

After yesterday’s storms, it’s been a very warm day here in Melbourne, with temperatures topping around 27ºc earlier today.

Thousands of fans have been queueing up outside the gates, with lines outside the Rod Laver entrance stretching nearly 300m back.

Kyrgios, though, has hailed some fans for their support, posting several snaps on his Instagram account to applaud their dedication.

Kyrgios is in the House!

Here comes the man we’ve all been waiting for!

Nick Kyrgios has arrived in the tennis precinct ahead of his clash against British star Jacob Fearnley.

Watching Kyrgios and Djokovic dance around the Pat Rafter arena two weeks ago brought home how much the ATP Tour has missed the Aussie star, not least his home fans back in Australia.

Alongside Djokovic, the duo had fans at the Queensland Tennis Centre on their feet, playing some sensational trick shots, laughing and joking with each other and even dancing together while on the court.

Match fitness did not seem a great issue either for Kyrgios and he largely put to bed doubts or concerns over his debilitating wrist injury that had left him unable to carry a shopping bag and even pour salt on his chips.

Today he’ll make his long-awaited Grand Slam comeback and the fans have been going Kyrgios crazy at Melbourne Park with some queuing for nearly five hours to get in.

Tsitsipas is OUT of the Australian Open!

This could perhaps go down as one of the biggest upsets of the fortnight, with world No 12, Stefanos Tsitsipas making a shock early exit from the Australian Open earlier this afternoon.

The 2023 Australian Open finalist suffered a huge loss by US star Alex Michelsen, who bested his Greek opponent 5-7 3-6 6-2 4-6.

Michelsen, who is ranked 42nd on the ATP Tour seized one of the biggest wins in his career with 20-year-old youngster, barring the third set, dominating Tsitsipas at the John Cain Arena.

The result means that the Greek star has failed to reach the second round of his last two Grand Slam appearances, with the 2019 ATP Tour Finals winner suffering defeat by Thanasi Kokkinakis at Flushing Meadows last September.

Hello again!

Good afternoon and welcome back to Melbourne Park for a HUGE day of tennis!

Boy, have we got a lot in store tonight with Nick Kyrgios set to make his Grand Slam return for the first time since the 2022 US Open.

Novak Djokovic, gunning to win his 11th Australian Open title, also gets his tournament underway tonight against US Star Nishesh Basavareddy on Rod Laver later tonight.

But first we’ve got a massive upset to bring you from Melbourne Park…
