After a week of fears, uncertainty and suspicion, President Trump brought down a surprise on Saturday, which will be music for Tim Cook ears: all Apple products are exempt from the 125 percent tariffs this week on Chinese imports. This follows a temporary stop for 90 days on the definitions of all other countries.
This exemption covers a wide range of technical products, including smartphones, laptops, hard drives and processors, as well as headphones and smart sound amplifiers. This is essentially all that you sell Apple, with a possible exception to some accessories such as Apple Pencil and Magic Mouse. Currently, it seems that it will be customary in Apple Park, without any immediate concern for high prices.
However, the situation can change at any moment. Only this week, Trump raised the customs tariff, threatened suspended tariffs, threatened more customs tariffs, and its goal to TSMC by threatening a 100 percent tax, and maintaining anything mainly with a chip. Therefore, Apple’s re -postponement may be temporary. Trump’s moves were not unexpected – including the exemption on Saturday – so it is unclear what could happen after that. For example, a 20 percent “fentian” tariff remains on China’s imports of all products, and US Trade Minister Howard Lootnick said that smartphones and other consumer electronics may still have a separate tariff. Therefore, Trump can decide to impose more customs tariffs or change the list of exempt products.
But at the present time, concerns related to raising prices, especially with iPhone 17, have calmed down just months.
