Dorgu, who stands 6ft 2in and can operate at left or right-back, made his debut last season and has played 52 times in Lecce’s top flight. He has four international caps.

If an agreement can be reached and he joins Dorgu United, Amorim will receive a first joint signing for his 3-4-1-2 formation. The players inherited from Erik ten Hag struggled with the system, with the team winning only six of their 16 matches.

Finances are tight at United, but funds will be boosted if Anthony’s expected loan continues into the rest of the season. The winger is expected to complete the move to Betis within the next 24 hours after receiving permission to travel to Seville for a medical. The proposed deal would see him pay 84% of the £150,000-a-week wage, plus any bonuses due.

United are also willing to listen to offers in the region of €70m for Alejandro Garnacho, with Chelsea interested in the winger. “We’re paying attention [to the market] “If there’s something it can happen,” Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca said when asked about Garnacho’s signing on Friday. “But 10 days to go, we haven’t done anything. We’ll see in the next 10 days if something happens. [But] I’m happy with what we have at the moment. On the right side there is Pedro [Neto] Wonnie [Madueke]On the left there are Jadon [Sancho]”
