Care Starmer Vladimir Putin has accused “playing games” because of Donald Trump’s attempts to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine.

The Russian president said that he welcomed the moves to reach a peace agreement in the conflict, but he set a number of conditions that he said must be fulfilled before he agreed to a truce.

They included the treatment of what he described as “the radical causes” of the war – they neglected to mention that he started when he ordered his forces to invade Ukraine in 2022.

On Saturday, Starmer will host an online meeting for about 25 countries, as it seeks to form a “coalition of desire” for countries intended to help provide security guarantees for any peace deal.

Among those who expect France, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as representatives of the European Union and NATO committee.

The Prime Minister said: “We cannot allow President Putin to play games with President Trump’s deal. The Kremlin’s complete ignorance of President Trump’s suggestion for a ceasefire only works only to prove that Putin is not serious in peace.

“If Russia finally reaches the table, we must be ready to monitor the ceasefire to ensure that it is a dangerous, and permanent peace. If they do not do it, we need to be tense every person to intensify economic pressure on Russia to secure this war.

“Putin is trying to delay, saying that there must be a strenuous study before a ceasefire occurs. But the world needs to see work, not an empty study or words and meaningless conditions.

“My message to the Kremlin cannot be more clear: Stop barbaric attacks on Ukraine, once and forever, and agree to a ceasefire now. Until then we will continue to work around the clock to deliver peace.”
